First Woman to win The Turner Prize

One of the UK’s leading contemporary artists, with over 28 solo international exhibitions, Whiteread’s work features in group exhibitions, commissions, private collections, public installations and awards all over the world. Rachel Whiteread became the first woman to win the Turner Prize in 1993. Since its inception in 1984, Whiteread is one of only seven women to have won this infamous annual prize. The Turner Prize is awarded to British visual artists and is the UK’s most publicised art award.
