First Woman officer in the RAF to be IEDD (Improvised Explosive Device Disposal) qualified

In 2015 Flight Lieutenant Leanne Martin became the first woman to be fully qualified as a bomb disposal member of her RAF Squadron, which was formed in 1943. Leanne’s expertise lies in dealing with potentially explosive devices, within the context of international terrorist organisations and criminal gangs. She is currently a Junior Engineering Officer on the Typhoon aircraft in a fast-paced operational Squadron, deploying around the world to support RAF operations. In the future she will work as Armament Trails Officer on the new F-35 aircraft.
