Biography

 

First Woman Commissioner of the London Fire Brigade

Cotton joined the fire service in 1988 and in 2004 became the first woman to be awarded the Queen’s Fire Service Medal (awarded for distinguished service or gallantry) in the award’s 50 year history. In 2017 Cotton was made Commissioner of the London Fire Brigade and is she first woman ever to hold this position in the organisation’s 152 years of service to the capital. LFB is the second largest of all the fire services in the United Kingdom.
