b.1960, Malaysia

English comedian, novelist and actress, Jenny Eclair became the first woman to receive the coveted Edinburgh Comedy Awards (formerly known as the Perrier Comedy Awards) in 1995 when she was 35 years old. Jenny claimed the prize after 15 consecutive male wins since the award’s inception and she is one of only four women to win it (to date), in its 36-year history. This group of prizes (including best newcomer and panel prizes) is awarded annually to comedy shows at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
